My family has a tradition of going to the Festival of Lights every winter. Though we all love the lights, the highlight of the event is definitely the bonfire. We all roast marshmallows and drink Russian Tea.My husband adores Russian Tea, so we decided to make some for ourselves from a family recipe. This recipe is for instant mix. You just make a bunch and put it in an air-tight container and drink it a cup at a time, as you like. This way, everyone can make their cup to their taste preference.
You will need…
1 (1 lb. 2 oz.) jar Tang {be careful, we could only find it in 1lb. 4 oz. containers recently}
3/4 cup instant tea with lemon
1 1/2 cups sugar {or add more – according to taste}
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
Note: We doubled this recipe for the container shown.
Add all of the ingredients to your air-tight container, one at a time.
We picked this container up at Walmart for around $7. When the handle is up, it is not sealed.
When the handle is down, it is vacuum sealed.
Now, shake up the ingredients until mixed thoroughly.
Russian tea is great with anything pumpkin flavored. We picked up this pumpkin roll at Walmart for $5.88. Add 1-4 tsps of Russian Tea Mix to your favorite mug filled with boiling water. The Keurig works great for this. We just run some water through it, add our Russian Tea mix and enjoy!

I love Russian Tea. One thing that we did different was to not add spices but use Red Hot candies instead! They melt in the hot water and give the drink a delicious cinnamon taste! If memory serves me right, my mom would put in about 3/4 cup to the mixture. She always made a ton and gave it away.
Dawn says
Oooh, I should try that sometime. 🙂 Thanks for the tip!

I am sure that you could substitute Splenda or Truvia or something, too, if you prefer.
