This 2 ingredient Homemade Chocolate Syrup recipe is great to have on hand all year round so that you can quickly make a cup of chocolate milk or hot chocolate whenever the craving hits! Oh, and did I mention it takes 5 minutes to make?
I don't know about you, but I definitely remember the days of squeezing way too much Hershey's Chocolate Syrup into my milk to make chocolate milk growing up. Even as an adult, I still love chocolatey drinks. I often have a batch of homemade chocolate oat milk in my fridge or am making dairy-free ice mochas for a little afternoon pick me up. Since I love chocolate milk so much I've started to make my own homemade chocolate syrup and it makes the most delicious, refreshing dairy-free chocolate milk in just minutes!

Why You'll Love This Recipe!
- This homemade chocolate syrup only requires 2 ingredients (plus water) and about 5 minutes to make. I don't know a recipe that's much easier than that!
- I love to have this chocolate syrup on hand because it's so versatile. It can make chocolate milk, iced mochas and homemade vegan hot chocolate in minutes. It also tastes amazing drizzled over no churn vegan ice cream.
- Coconut sugar works great in this recipe for a more natural sweetener that doesn't give me a big sugar rush.

Expert Tips
- Be sure to whisk your cocoa powder, sugar and hot water together really well so that you don't have any clumps in your homemade chocolate syrup.
- I love to use an immersion blender to blend my chocolate syrup into my non-dairy milk before adding ice. This makes the chocolate milk super smooth and well combined. If you're making a large batch of chocolate milk, you can always use a blender as well!
Recipe FAQs
Is Hershey's syrup real chocolate?
There are a few versions of Hershey's Chocolate Syrup, one of which (so I hear) only contains 5 simple ingredients and doesn't contain high fructose corn syrup. However, the more common Hershey's syrup that you'll find contains high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, water, cocoa, and sugar.
I wouldn't consider it real chocolate, but instead would call it a chocolate-flavored syrup. That doesn't mean it's delicious!
Are chocolate sauce and chocolate syrup the same thing?
Chocolate syrup is usually a runnier consistency and often doesn't contain milk or dairy products. Store-bought chocolate sauces and hot fudge sauces are often thicker in consistency and are made that way by the addition of cream or other dairy products.
What can be made from chocolate syrup?
Other than using this homemade chocolate syrup to make chocolate milk, I also love to drizzle it on desserts (especially ice cream), add it to my smoothies, drizzle it on on peanut butter toast, dip fruit like strawberries and bananas into it, or blend it into my iced coffee to make a delicious iced mocha.
How do you store chocolate syrup?
I store this homemade chocolate syrup in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 weeks.
